Dr. Lei Cao received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri-Columbia in 2002, his M.S. degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China in 1993, and his B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Hefei University of Technology in China in 1990.
Dr. Cao has joined Department of Electrical Engineering at The University of Mississippi since 2002, where he currently is a professor. His other employment includes lecturer in the Department of Electronic Engineering at University of Science and Technology of China from 1993 to 1998, visiting professor and consultant for Mitsubishi Electric Research laboratories in 2008 and 2009. He was a visiting professor at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia in 2009. During his PhD program, He was a research and teaching assistant at University of Missouri-Columbia. He was with Symbol Technologies Inc. in 2000 as an intern and with Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories in 2001 and 2002 as an intern and then a research associate. He had been a research assistant in Hefei Institute of Intelligent Machines, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1990 to 1993.
His research interests fall into two categories. One is signal processing and wireless communications including coding, cooperative communications and probability modeling, and the other is multimedia technologies including image processing and coding, graphics and fractals. He is a senior member of IEEE and a full member of Sigma Xi.
